The Kuripot Test

Are you frugal or miser/cheap?

Sabi sa Wikipedia:

miser or cheap is a person who is reluctant to spend, sometimes to the point of forgoing even basic comforts and some necessities, in order to hoard money or other possessions.

Frugality is the quality of being frugal, sparing, thrifty, prudent or economical in the consumption of consumable resources such as food, time or money, and avoiding waste, lavishness or extravagance.

Are you matipid or kuripot?

Bakit ka bibili kung mayroon pa naman?

Bakit ka gagastos ng hindi kailangan?

Yayaman ba ako sa pagtitipid?

Kung afford ko naman, I buy it na; rather than me spending hours looking around for the cheapest deal. Time is precious and important for me to do more productive things.

Some will say, “Saving is for losers. It’s a slow and painful way to get rich.”. You would hear them say that they would rather invest than save.

I find this also true dahil ang pagtitipid take time and is boring and investing is the best way to build wealth.

Pero savers are not losers. In fact, they’re champions who create opportunities.

Kapag matipid ka, natuturuan ka mag-manage ng pera despite how little it is now.

When you are practical with your finances you learn how to build wealth.

 – and sabi nga nila when it comes to getting rich, there certainly is no shortcuts.

The Bible says, God is faithful to bless us with bigger things more than we can ever imagine but if we are

unfaithful with little things, how can He bless us with bigger ones?

The Kuripot Guide Being Matipid

Di mo naman afford

If you cannot pay it in cash, you shouldn’t get it. Avoid debt. Avoid credit card swipe.

Did you just justify your purchase for your “comfort” or “reward” for working so hard?

Fix: Step back and consider consequences of the impulsive purchase.

Do you really need that brand-new camera or that vacation worth ₱10,000?

Wag laging gutom

Admit it. After lunch you still need snacks in between. Sometimes I eat even if I’m not hungry. I realized I’m just bored.

Fix: Drink water. Plenty of water. Feeling of hunger usually goes away. And water is good for your health too.

Do you really need to eat out every week with friends worth ₱200 per eat out, ₱1000 a month?

Mamamatay ka ba kapag hindi mo binili?”

It is not a need if you can live without it. It is a need if it keeps you alive.

What? You “need” to have a crazy night with friends every week to unwind from work.

You may have misunderstood the meaning of “need”.

Full meals, oxygen, transportation to work, a home to live in are needs.

“wants” are not wrong. Even people that are matipid indulge in “wants”.

The difference is they don’t convince themselves that the loss of wants are horrible and they are being deprived.

Do you really need that brand new shoes worth ₱3000 because it was on sale?
